How do I use the JCE Media Box to display YouTube and other videos, or images, in a shadowbox?

1. Firstly, you must have installed the JCE Mediabox Plugin and published it. You can follow the same steps to install JCE to installjust about any other component or plugin: How to install the Joomla Content Editor (JCE)

2. While editing your article, you will need to create something to be a 'link' to your video or image. For this example, write some text - something like "Click here for the video".

3. Grab a copy of the URL / address for your video or image to your
clipboard (CTRL + C). For example, open your video in YouTube, go to
the address bar in your web browser, highlight and copy the full address
(right click and 'copy' or CTRL + C).

4. Go back to your Joomla admin panel where you were editing your article. With your mouse, highlight the text you created for your video link
(i.e. hold down left mouse button and drag across the desired text).
5. Click on the Insert Link icon: in the toolbar.

6. In the URL field at the top, paste in your image or video URL / address.

7. Click on the advanced tab.

8. In the Classes List field, select 'jcepopup'.

9. Click on the INSERT button at the bottom of the pop-up window to apply your changes to the editor.

10. You now need to click on the SAVE or APPLY buttons in your article, as usual, to save your changes.

11. Have a look at your article in your website, and you should find that your link now looks a little unusual, and when clicked, will initiate a cool shadowbox to display your content.

An easier way to add an image to your Joomla articles - your ability to do this depends on what editor is installed for your admin pages.

If you have an editor in your Joomla installation which allows it, you can add images to your article without having to use the Media Manager menu.

We recommend you use the Joomla Content Editor (JCE) - you will need to install this via your administration panel first. JCE provides an ADD IMAGE button in your toolbar. The tool will allow you to upload images straight from your article edit window, and provides many powerful features.

OR if you don't have JCE or don't feel inclined to install it, you can still try the method below:

Open the article you want in the admin panel, then look for the Add Image button at the bottom left of the edit window [Fig 1]

Fig 1

Once opened, you should be able to see a Browse button at the botton left of the new window. You can use this to browse for files on your local computer. Once you have selected one, use the Start Upload button to start uploading it to the server. The image will then appear on the list of available images you can add to an article - select the image and click on the Insert button in the top right of the window [Fig 2]

How to install the Joomla Content Editor (JCE)

1. Login to your Joomla admin panel (usually located at http://yoursite.com/administrator)

2. Select EXTENSIONS -> INSTALL/UNINSTALL

3. Grab the latest version of JCE - you can either download it, and install using the "Upload Package File" option, or you can simply copy the download URL from the JCE website, and paste it into the "Install from URL" field. Make sure you use the full package version (filename: "JCE 1.x.x.x Package" ) otherwise you will need to download and install both the JCE component and the JCE plugin separately.

4. Wait for the package to upload and install.

5. You should get a confirmation message (or an error message). If you receive an error, contact support.

6. If you didn't download the full package, you will also need to download the JCE plugin and install that.

7. You may need to publish the JCE plugin - go to EXTENSIONS -> PLUGIN MANAGER and check to see if it has a red X next to it. If it does, click on it to publish the plugin.

8. Now you need to tell Joomla that you want to use a different editor for your content. Go to SITE -> GLOBAL CONFIG and change the "Default WYSIWYG" option to JCE.

9. You should now see a new editor, with lots of new functions (buttons) when you edit articles, and other pages in Joomla.

NOTE: If you still don't see the new editor after changing the WYSIWYG option, you may need to change the editor option for your individual user. Go to SITE -> USER MANAGER, select your user and change the WYSIWYG editor option in there to JCE also.
